Calculate Moving Average using Window Functions

Window functions make it very easy to calculate a moving average across a time series dataset.

We can use the ORDER BY date field and ROWS BETWEEN to define our moving average window.

1AVG(value) OVER(
2  ORDER BY date_field 
3  ROWS BETWEEN 6 PRECEDING AND CURRENT ROW
4) AS moving_average

AVG(value) OVER(
  ORDER BY date_field 
  ROWS BETWEEN 6 PRECEDING AND CURRENT ROW
) AS moving_average
